Canadian Drugs: Are They the Same as the Ones Sold in the States?

Experts have projected that the global market for pharmaceuticals will surpass $1.3 trillion in value this year.

If you’ve paid for medication in the United States recently, this statistic might not surprise you. Drugs in America can get very expensive.

If you’ve done your research, you might already know that pharmaceuticals are available in Canada for much lower prices. This begs the question; are Canadian drugs the same as those sold in the US?

Read on as we answer this question, and tell you everything you need to know about Canadian drugs.

Are Canadian Drugs the Same as American Drugs?

Approved, brand-name medications are the same regardless of where you purchase them.

There are reports of subpar medication from online Canadian stores making its way to America. This does happen, and it’s a big problem.

Low-quality or counterfeit medication can be dangerous for a number of reasons. Firstly, it may contain unsafe ingredients. It may also lack the necessary amount of the ingredient that is effective in treating your condition.

However, you can avoid this problem if you are careful about the retailer you use to buy drugs.

If you shop with 90 Day Meds, you can be sure that you’ll get exactly what you’re looking for.

Our operation is independently observed by Pharmacy Checker, a nonprofit organization based in New York. They inspect each of the pharmacies that we distribute drugs from.

Should You Buy Canadian Drugs?

As long as you have a way to verify that the medication you buy is of the right quality, there’s no reason not to buy Canadian drugs. Purchasing treatments from Canada will save most people very significant money over time.

If you buy online, you also have the added advantage of convenience. When you start getting medication posted to your mailbox, your days of traveling to and from pharmacies, or waiting in queues once you’re there, are over.

This is especially important given the current coronavirus pandemic. If you’re an elderly or high-risk person, buying drugs online will spare you potentially dangerous trips to your local pharmacy.

What to Look Out For

Firstly, it is important to note that the labeling on Canadian drugs will always be different to that on American drugs. This shouldn’t be any cause for concern. Packaging requirements are different in Canada than they are in the US.

If you buy the same brand-name medication that you buy in America, you can be confident that it is the genuine article as long as you receive it in a sealed package.

Generic medications go by different names in different countries. It may, therefore, be more difficult to verify the quality of a drug if it is not a brand-name product.

Most generic medications are of high quality and contain the same dose of the effective ingredient as branded medications. There may be a variance in terms of the fillers used, however.

Why Are Drug Prices so Much Lower in Canada?

A lot of healthcare products and services in Canada are subsidized or fully paid for by the government. This is not the case in the US.

As well as this, the pharmaceutical lobby in America is notoriously strong. This has prevented many legislative attempts to make healthcare cheaper for Americans.

This situation allows the pharmaceutical industry to act as an oligopoly, setting artificially inflated prices and remaining hugely profitable.

How to Buy Canadian Drugs

There are a number of ways to acquire Canadian drugs. However, not all of these are safe.

If you live close to the Canadian border, it may be possible for you to travel to a physical Canadian pharmacy and pick up your drugs yourself. Bernie Sanders famously made the journey across the border to buy drugs in 2000 to highlight the issue with the cost of pharmaceuticals in the US.

However, this is more hassle than it’s worth in 2020, regardless of how close to the border you live. You’re still going to the trouble and expense of physically traveling when you could have your drugs delivered to your door.

If you choose 90 Day Meds, the ordering process is made simple for you. You can order online, over the phone, or through the mail.

Also, as shown above, you’ll never have to worry about our products being anything less than genuine.

What Are the Rules on Bringing Canadian Drugs Into the US?

Pharmaceuticals aren’t treated like other consumer goods by authorities, especially not when you’re carrying them across borders. The US has some rules on the importation of drugs that you should be aware of.

The most important of these is that you are not allowed to import more than a 90-day supply of any drug from abroad.

For this reason, 90 Day Meds won’t sell you any more than 90 doses of a given medication in one order. The only exception occurs where medication is packaged in amounts of 100. In this case, we will ship the products to you as we receive them.

We do sell smaller amounts of medications, as long as we can distribute them without interfering with their original packaging. For example, if a drug comes in packs of 30, we cannot sell you any less than 30 doses.

US authorities also require you to have a valid prescription for the drug you’re importing. This obviously only applies to prescription medications.
