What should you know before you take Victoza (Liraglutide)?
Victoza (Liraglutide )carries a black box warning for thyroid C-cell tumors. The incidence was found in mice and rats but the incidence has not been determined in humans. If you have a personal or family history of thyroid cancer/ Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN-2) you should not take Victoza.
Patients have reported pancreatitis with this medication. If you experience severe pain in your abdomen area with or without vomiting you should stop using Victoza (Liraglutide) and call your healthcare provider promptly.
Do not share your Victoza (Liraglutide) with any other patients.
If you are also on other diabetes medications (sulfonylurea or insulin) you are at an increased risk for hypoglycemia. It is important to monitor your blood glucose when starting/changing doses of Victoza (Liraglutide) or your other diabetes medications.
Patients with renal impairment should exercise caution with this medication as it may cause nausea/vomiting and diarrhea associated with dehydration, which can exacerbate a kidney injury.
Hypersensitivity reactions have occurred with patients using Victoza. Discontinue Victoza (Liraglutide) if you have any swelling of the face, tongue, or throat and seek appropriate medical attention.
If you are suspected of having gallbladder issues you should be evaluated by your doctor.
