How do I take Basaglar ?
Basaglar should be taken as directed by your physician. Never change the dose without provider approval. Every time you give yourself a dose, check the pen to make sure it is dialed to the correct amount of units so you don’t receive too much or not enough of your insulin dose. Injections can be given at any time of the day but make sure to take at the same time every day. Injection sites include: upper arm, abdomen, or thighs; rotate injection sites in the area you choose, avoid injecting insulin into the same spot.

There is a risk of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia with this medication. Check blood sugars regularly or as advised by your doctor as hypoglycemia may be life-threatening especially when your dose is changed.
Always check the label on the insulin before giving yourself a dose to ensure it is the correct medication.
Severe-life threatening allergies such as anaphylaxis have been reported. If this occurs, immediately discontinue.
Patients with hypokalemia or have risk factors for hypokalemia may need to be monitored.
Fluid retention and heart failure cases have been reported when this insulin is used concomitantly with thiazolidines. Discontinue or reduce dose if signs of heart failure develop.
What are the side effects of Basaglar?

May interact with other drugs that affect glucose metabolism. The dose of insulin may need to be lowered and additional glucose monitoring is recommended.
When used with anti-adrenergic drugs, the usual symptoms of hypoglycemia may be blunted. Sweating is a symptom of hypoglycemia that is not blunted when a patient is taking anti-adrenergic drugs.
How should this medication be stored?
Unopened and opened Basaglar pens can be stored at room temperature (68°F to 77°F) for up to 28 days. Once opened, leave the pens at room temperature, do not refrigerate. Unopened pens can also be stored in the refrigerator (36°F to 46°F) until the expiration date listed on the box.
