What is Prempro?

Prempro is a prescription medication that is classified as an estrogen/progestin.


What is Prempro used for? 

In postmenopausal women with an intact uterus, it is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms, moderate to severe vulvar and vaginal atrophy, and used for the prevention of osteoporosis.

How does it work? 

Through a negative feedback mechanism, the estrogen binding to its receptors causes a reduction of the levels of gonadotropins. The medroxyprogesterone component decreases nuclear estrogen receptors and suppresses epithelial DNA synthesis in the tissue of the endometrium.


How do I take Prempro? 

Prempro can be taken with or without food. Take this medication as prescribed, taking more of this medication is not advised unless directed by your doctor. This medication should be taken at the same time each day. Follow up with your doctor about every 3 to 6 months to ensure this medication is still appropriate for you.

What dosages are available?

Prempro is available by brand-only 0.3 mg/1.5 mg, 0.45 mg/1.5 mg, 0.625 mg/2.5 mg, and 0.625 mg/5 mg tablets.
