Albanon or naphazoline is a medication for treating eyes. It is a vasoconstrictor that works by making swollen blood vessels in the eyes narrow. This helps to reduce eye redness triggered by minor irritants. Albanon is a temporary cure though. If you have consistent eye redness and discomfort, have a talk with your doctor.
It is necessary to use Albanon exactly as prescribed by the doctor. So it is advisable to use just the right amount for the recommended duration. If you use it too often, the medication could damage the blood vessels in your eye. Prior to using this eye drops medicine, wash your hands to avoid contaminating the dropper.
Then to apply, tilt your head back a little. Pull down your lower eyelid until a tiny pocket forms. Hold the dropper tip above this eye, look up and away from it and squeeze out just one drop. Close this eye and gently press a finger to the inner corner of this eye to keep the medication inside it.
Be careful not to release two drops as this will be an overdose. Restore the cap and store the medication properly until you need it again.
Albanon can cause the following common side effects:
If you notice signs of an allergic reaction, call your doctor and inform them. Also, tell them about your severe eye pain, changes in vision, chest pain, uneven heart rate, severe headache and so on.
Before you start using Albanon eye drops medication, ensure that it is safe for you. Tell your physician or pharmacist about your other health issues. These may include:
Albanon is in FDA pregnancy category C drugs. So it is unknown whether it can harm a fetus. You should therefore tell your doctor that you are expectant or looking to carry a baby. If already breastfeeding, alert your doctor. It’s unclear whether naphazoline can pass into breast milk and harm a baby.
