Clomicalm Information

Clomicalm is a member of the tricyclic antidepressant group of drugs. The drug is used for reducing the clinical signs of separation anxiety and it works by affecting noradrenergic and serotonergic neuronal transmission in the CNS. The drug carries out its action by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the CNS.

Clomicalm can also be used for controlling destructive behavior or inappropriate barking in dogs. It is also useful for controlling inappropriate defecation or urination in the dog. However, the drug works better when included with behavior modification.

Recommended Use

Clomicalm is a prescription drug and you should follow a vet doctor’s direction when using it.  Its recommended daily dose is 2 to 4 m per kg body weight daily. You can give it as a single dose or you can divide it into two portions and give it two times daily.  It is better to start giving it as a divided dose to minimize the side effects and also allow the pet to adapt to the drug. You can give the drug with a small amount of food to reduce the incidence of vomiting during the medication.
