How to take Effexor XR?
Take your Effexor XR capsule whole by mouth with food. Do not chew or crush the capsule or its contents.
You may open up the capsule and sprinkle the pellets into a spoonful of applesauce to be swallowed immediately, not chewed. This should be followed by a glass of water to ensure all the pellets from the capsule are ingested.

Discontinuation syndrome: Do not abruptly stop taking this medication as symptoms may arise, commonly including vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, headache, lightheadedness, decreased appetite, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sweating, chills, fatigue, somnolence, tremors, paresthesias, and sweating.
Sexual dysfunction may occur or be exacerbated.
Caution in those with hepatic dysfunction. Dose reduction is recommended.

Monitor blood pressure regularly as a dose-related increase in systolic and diastolic blood pressure have been reported. Dose reduction or discontinuation should be considered if sustained increases are seen.
Dose-dependent weight loss has been reported in both pediatric and adult patients and not limited to experiencing anorectic effects.
Effexor XR may cause a significant increase in total cholesterol and triglycerides. This should be monitored during long-term treatment.
Consider evaluating whether patients have not had an iridotomy for narrow-angle glaucoma risk factors due to a possibility of Effexor XR causing an acute episode of narrow-angle glaucoma.
Pediatric population: Effexor XR may cause insomnia, nervousness, and anxiety in the pediatric population. An increase in hyperactivity has been reported in children being treated for ADHD. Effexor XR may cause anorexia and significant, dose-related weight loss; caution should be used in those where weight loss is unwanted. Effexor XR may affect weight and height in children; close monitoring should be done.
