What is Lialda used for? 

It is indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderately active ulcerative colitis in those weighing 24 kg and up and the treatment of mild-to-moderately active ulcerative colitis in adults.

How does it work?

Mesalamine is theorized to inhibit cyclooxygenase and prostaglandin synthesis in the colon which helps with lowering inflammation.

How do I take Lialda (Mesalamine)?

Take Lialda (Mesalamine) tablet(s) whole by mouth with a meal. Do not crush, cut, or chew the tablet.

Caution in patients predisposed to pericarditis and myocarditis.

Mesalamine-induced hypersensitivity reactions have been reported.

Intolerance syndrome (bloody diarrhea, ramping, abdominal pain) may occur with Lialda (Mesalamine) use.

Caution in patients with pre-existing skin conditions as severe photosensitivity reactions have been reported with use.

A renal evaluation should be done prior to starting Lialda (Mesalamine).

Patients with a hypersensitivity to sulfasalazine can react to Lialda (Mesalamine).
