Duavee Information

Duavee is a prescription-only medicine that contains bazedoxifene and conjugated estrogens. The work of bezadoxifene is to block the estrogen hormone so as not to reach certain cells found in the uterine lining. This helps to stop the uterine tissue from overgrowing. Conjugated estrogens are a blend of estrogen hormones. Estrogen is a female sex hormone released by the ovaries. When a woman reaches menopause, her ovaries are no longer able to produce estrogen. Duavee is therefore taken to treat symptoms that arise due to shortage of natural estrogen. These include osteoporosis, hot flashes, and vaginal dryness and so on. Duavee will only help a woman whose uterus is still intact or has not done hysterectomy surgery to remove the uterus.

How To Use

Take Duavee exactly as prescribed. If treating osteoporosis, the right dose is 20mg/0.45mg. The same dose is taken when treating postmenopausal symptoms. Swallow the entire tablet without breaking or crushing it. Keep attending your clinics as the doctor will tell if you need to continue taking Duavee or not. Also, you can examine your breasts for lumps on a monthly basis and do mammograms often.
As Duavee should be used temporarily, don’t exceed the recommended duration (usually 60 days only) even if you don’t feel better yet. Instead, talk to your doctor. If asked to take extra calcium or vitamin D, just follow the doctor’s guidelines.
